Harsh light and sterile design whisper:
you’re not safe

Our Environment Shapes Our Biology
Every space tells the body a story.
Soft light and organic motion tell the nervous system to:
Exhale
Even brief exposure to calming visuals, like moving light or natural imagery, lowers heart rate, reduces cortisol, and activates the body’s rest-and-digest response.
80% of hospital and corporate lighting keeps the body in stress mode.
Bliss Productions designs and installs restorative environments that activate the parasympathetic response, lowering stress, improving focus, and enhancing mood within minutes.
Light isn’t just decoration.
It’s information. It tells
your body how to feel.
We create environments that help the body feel regulated, grounded, and safe.
What We Do + How We Do it
(01)
Science Meets Experience
The world doesn’t just see light, it feels it.
Bliss Productions brings human emotion and environmental design to the forefront, creating immersive spaces powered by BlissLights® technology. Our installations are tailored to each environment’s purpose—whether restorative, reflective, or celebratory. Every project begins with a site assessment that informs the installation plan.
Where Bliss Productions is the experience, BlissLights® is the science, the patented projection engine trusted by Disney engineers and loved by millions.
Together, they turn scientific precision into sensory transformation. Our clients don’t purchase lights—they partner with us to transform their environments.

We design light the way composers design sound

(02)
Restorative Experiences
Light that helps the body remember calm
Every environment tells a story to the body.
Our installations use slow movement and natural color gradients to cue safety and ease, helping the nervous system shift from survival into rest.
When the body feels safe, it begins to repair itself.
Heart rate slows, breath deepens, the mind quiets.
We don’t heal people. We help the environment heal them.
Our installations can be tailored to any space, from small rooms, to mid-sized wellness areas, or large venues or permanent spaces. After a thorough on-site assessment, we develop a customized proposal with tiered design options to meet each client's needs.

Calm isn’t a luxury .
It’s a biological requirement
(03)
Celebratory Experiences
Light That Amplifies Connection
Celebration is also regulation, the body’s way of expressing safety, joy, and belonging.
Our installations turn ceilings into skies and walls into movement, syncing light, rhythm, and emotion. These experiences can be adapted for indoor or outdoor environments, from intimate gatherings to large-scale activations. We handle installation, calibration, and onsite support as needed.
As color shifts and the atmosphere opens, people do too. Their energy rises, hearts synchronize, memories imprint. This is what it feels like when presence becomes collective.
Light doesn’t just set the mood, it sets people free.

Our Team

Randy Johnson
Co-Founder
Randy is a pioneering innovator in laser display technology whose four-decade career has significantly shaped the entertainment, advertising, and architectural lighting industries. Beginning in 1975 at Spectra Physics, he helped push the boundaries of high-power ion lasers for light shows and went on to contribute to iconic projects with Laserium, Laser Media’s Broadway production of Peter Pan, and major theme parks including SeaWorld and Universal Studios. As co-founder of AD Laser, he helped create the world’s first computer-based portable laser advertising system, and later engineered advanced simulation projection systems with Evans & Sutherland. His large-scale installations for Las Vegas resorts and creative contributions to Burning Man further demonstrated his technical and artistic range. In 2006, he co-founded BlissLights, where he led the development of breakthrough consumer products such as the bestselling Skylite. Johnson also collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering on the laser particle physics effects for Hong Kong Disneyland’s “Mystic Manor.” He is the named inventor on 13 U.S. patents in architectural and entertainment laser lighting systems, reflecting his enduring impact on light-based innovation.

Cathy Makebakken
Co-Founder
Cathy brings together her early experience on the BlissLights® founding team—from the very first single-color star field to full Disney experiential installations—with a 15-year career coordinating international marketing and distribution for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to major universities. She helped build a startup from inception through acquisition by DHL, developing a strong foundation in communication, collaboration, and scalable operations. For more than 30 years, Cathy has cultivated a dedicated wellness practice rooted in traditional yoga—studying both dynamic and meditative forms—alongside over two decades of learning in contemplative wisdom traditions under highly respected teachers in Native American, Yoruba, and Hindu lineages, as well as modern consciousness studies. Her work is guided by values of wisdom, trust, and community upliftment, and she is passionate about creating environments that inspire connection, presence, and possibility. Cathy channels these strengths into lighting experiences designed to elevate spaces and support the well-being of the people who move through them.

Mikah Doerken
Co-Founder
Growing up immersed in the world of BlissLights, which my parents co-founded, I developed a deep appreciation for the emotional and aesthetic power of light. That lifelong influence shaped the vision which my team and I aim to fulfill: to use light as a tool for healing, inspiration, and beauty — especially in places where it’s most needed. Using this shared connection, we aspire to craft experiences that blur the line between art, technology, and wellbeing, inviting people to rediscover wonder in their everyday environments. I want our work to reflect the belief that even a single beam of light can shift perspective, evoke emotion, and bring a sense of magic to the world around us.

Sebastian Dörken
I bring extensive experience in the event industry, with a strong focus on large-scale productions and live performances. For over 25 years, I have served as the technical director for two major classical music festivals, overseeing all aspects of technical planning and execution. I am a certified Master of Lighting Technology, ensuring expert design and implementation of complex lighting systems. In addition, I hold a Master Certification in Stage Technology, giving me deep expertise in stage construction, rigging, and technical coordination. I am also a certified Safety Specialist for Events, committed to creating secure and compliant environments for audiences, artists, and crews.

Christopher Brown
A San Diego native, Christopher brings a lifelong passion for creative development and experiential design. He brings an expansive creative vision to the artistic direction of our installations, helping shape the visual palette and ensuring every environment meets the highest standards of quality and impact.
